GENERAL SCHEME of
the Mitochondrial Permeability Transition

Click scheme to view

This scheme represents main processes and influencing factors involved (directly or indirectly) in the Permeability Transition (PT) of inner mitochondrial membrane. The purpose of this scheme creation was to give a start point for the mathematical model of PT working up. The scheme is based on the totality of published experimental data and reviews related to the subject. In fact this is something like a graphical review. To provide the base for depicted PT mechanism a set of browsable links to HTML documents with references and additional information were included. (In the nearest time a number of  the references will be prepared and added to the scheme). The references on mitochondrial permeability transition can be also found in subject index or alphabetical index.

The scheme is currently (and possibly permanently) in the process of development and some pats can be revised or supplemented. In particular this is related to processes involving Adenine Nucleotides Translocase (ANT) interaction with Voltage Dependent Anion Channel (VDAC), Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor (PBR) parts, and Bcl-2 family proteins because this area is obviously at present not well studied experimentally. New and, possibly, unexpected experimental data could change radically current conception. Proposed scheme is only one of the possible variants of PT process organization. It was taken from Andrey Anishkin article "Mathematical model of the mitochondrial permeability transition: a systemic approach.", which is in preparation now.

Of course, none scheme could include all the details of such complex and multifactor process as Mitochondrial Permeability Transition (especially taking into account that PT is far from being completely studied experimentally). We are really appreciate any comments or corrections that on your opinion should be made to the scheme. Please, contact us for discussion or for any additional information.
